I Wasn’t Going to Say Anything, but…

By stecox

By presidential standards, Sarah Palin is a political retard.  Never in the history of this nation has anyone so unqualified to serve in the executive branch been this close to actually being put in that position by a deluded populace.  (Up to now, Dubya has held that title, but this…this is freaking ridiculous.)  Her selection as John McCain’s running mate is further evidence of a pattern of depressing, irresponsible, and insulting decisions made by the GOP in recent decades.  I hate to agree with someone like Matt Damon, but he put it best when he compared this situation to that of a “bad Disney movie.”

Up until about two weeks ago, I had a great deal of respect for John McCain.  He is a proven leader in the Senate, has devoted his life to service, and is an American hero.  I wasn’t going to vote for him (based on policy disagreements), but I wasn’t going to be too upset if he DID end up winning the election to become president.  He seemed like a responsible person who had America’s best interests at heart.  After he picked Palin as his running mate, I thought, “OK, never heard of her, but I’ll give her a chance.”  But it turns out that the McCain campaign kept Palin sequestered from the media, thus preventing the American people from really getting to know her.  It turns out they had good reason to do this.  However, the jig is now up.  She’s done three interviews to this point and will be required to participate in a debate with the impeccably qualified and unforgiving Joe Biden this week.  We’re now getting to know Sarah Palin and the response is an increasingly emphatic “WTF????”  It is becoming evident that her selection was purely a ploy to pull former Clinton supporters from Obama and had nothing to do with her qualifications or lack thereof.  The respect I had for McCain evaporates with every nonsensical buzzword-laden phrase that spews from Palin’s idiotic mouth.

I suppose part of the reasoning adopted by the McCain campaign was that Palin would be relatively immune to criticism- they could accuse anyone who took exception to her as being a sexist.  The problem is, she’s such a fumbling moron that it’s impossible NOT to question the McCain campaign’s motives.  We’re even starting to see stalwart conservatives start to question her qualifications.  Take Kathleen Parker for instance-

The level-headed, pragmatic, and non-partisan Fareed Zakaria is even alarmed-

Seriously, read the transcripts of her interviews.  She even managed to sound grossly unqualified during her interview with Sean Hannity-

Seriously?!  This is a person we are considering to be Vice President of our country?  Let’s face it- regardless of whether or not McCain cares about the people he’s trying to represent (I increasingly doubt it), he’s old (old people have a tendency to die), he’s been battling cancer, and I’m not convinced he will make it four years.  If he doesn’t, we’re stuck with a buffoon who thinks her lipstick, hockey sticks, and proximity to Russia (whom she’s indicated we should attack) make her qualified to lead the most powerful country in the world.  Her nomination makes a mockery of everything that makes our country great and it is a naked insult to the American people.
